Clearly Awesome.

Lucite. For me, it's one of my most desired pieces of furniture. I will own a piece one day, when I can actually afford it. Lucite is heavy acrylic used for making anything from trophies, chandeliers, end tables, to beds. It is a versatile material that can be molded and shaped into any form imaginable. It can be made in any color, or as I prefer it, can remain crystal clear. The clarity makes heavy or bulky pieces seem light and airy, and appear as if they are not taking up any space in the room. I love the interesting lines created in the more unique pieces. Lucite carries quite large price tags, but placed correctly in room can make a huge impact!

Designs That Inspire

In 2008 I earned a Fine Art degree from Auburn University. After graduation I ventured out into the real world only to be greeted with one of the worst job markets in history and a realization that my art degree was not exactly helping me out. I briefly lived the life of a retiree at the back of an orange grove in Orlando. Three short months later I moved back home and got a job at a little gift boutique. I then moved on to my current job at a wholesale oil painting and frame shop. It's a good job for gaining experience, but I need a career. So I decided to further my education in the field of art, just the more practical side this time. I am just starting out in the Graphic Design program at The University of South Alabama and I love it so far.

I wanted to start this blog as a way to collect a variety of forms of designs that inspire me. I will also include some of my work along the way to see how my ideas evolve over time. Hopefully you will enjoy this process with me!

For my first post, I am sharing my latest obsession, Amy Butler textile designs. On a recent trip to Arkansas I visited a little fabric store in downtown Rogers called The Rabbit's Lair. It was mainly focused toward quilting, but was filled to the brim with bolts of fabric. Fabric is one of my weaknesses, I will buy it with no purpose in mind. I was immediately drawn to a section filled with vibrant and bold-patterned bolts. They spoke to me. They were asking me to take them ALL home. I wanted to, but settled on a fat quarter of a discontinued design. One of the sweet ladies working in the shop told me the line of fabrics I was in love with was that of Amy Butler. Many of her designs are reminiscent of retro fabric patterns, but they are tweaked with larger scales and a contemporary color palette. She makes me want to sew something!
